RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat says protests alone rarely resolve issues
Mumbai: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said protests alone rarely solved problems and cautioned that international forces seeking to destabilise the country could exploit local issues to pursue their efforts.

In his Vijayadashami speech in Nagpur on Tuesday, two months after he acknowledged the concerns raised by students who were protesting for the removal of then education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhagwat said changing a regime would not change the situation on the ground. He referred to the demonstrations and riots in France and elsewhere in Europe as a "storm", which seeks to destroy "every kind of system, every form of civility, every standard and every cultural and human value".

"Look at what is happening in France, what has happened in Bangladesh and what happened in Nepal. There is talk that these are carefully orchestrated by some forces," the sarsanghchalak said.

India is the "ultimate target" of those making regime change operations around the world, he said.

Bhagwat acknowledged that there were problems since the country had not yet become fully developed.

"In a democracy, protests are bound to take place but what should be the purpose of a protest? It should be to find a solution," he said. "If the objective of a movement is to resolve a problem, then the group organising it, the government and administration acting to maintain peace and order, and political leaders must all ensure that their actions do not create discord, mutual hostility, bitterness, or division within our united society."

Must remain united

The forces that work against the country use social issues to create a sense of injustice and victimhood, and seek to isolate people and turn them into separate groups. They seek to undermine people's faith in the institutions, provoke conflict and create an atmosphere of disorder and anarchy, he said. Irrespective of the caste, creed and religion, the country has to remain united, Bhagwat said.

Restricting information

The RSS chief suggested that the government explore whether India could follow western countries in restricting information, particularly through OTT platforms, to the youth.

Bhagwat termed substance abuse as a national problem.

He also spoke about the recent Nepal tragedy and said the one-sided approach to development being pursued across the region contributed to environmental instability throughout the Himalayas.
