Bengaluru Airport Dasara Celebrations : Kempegowda International Airport Bangalore (BLR Airport) will be celebrating Karnataka's famous festival Nadahabba Dussehra with a week-long cultural festival from October 12 to 17. As Bangalore's gateway to the world, BLR Airport sees itself as an extension of the city and a cultural gateway to Karnataka. It is an attempt to bring the state's traditions, stories and creative heritage into the travel experience. The art, tradition and heritage of Karnataka will be brought alive through live performances, artistic installations, festive experiences and participatory activities at the airport. This year, the approach goes beyond showcasing Karnataka's cultural heritage, making cultural exploration an integral part of the traveler experience. Each activity is based on an authentic art or craft form of Karnataka. So travelers can learn the stories, skills and traditions behind those art forms. In this way, the airport is not just a place for festive decorations, but a part of the journey to the living heritage of Karnataka.
Speaking about the festival, Shalini Rao, Chief Marketing Officer, Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) said, “At BLR Airport, we believe that every traveler should experience the loving, cultural and vibrant nature of Karnataka. This is the spirit behind our Nadahabba Dussehra festival. The state's rich heritage is brought to life through music, dance, puppetry, traditional games and specially prepared food experiences. From 12th to 17th October, passengers, guests, Partners and citizens of Bengaluru will be able to participate in the six-day festival celebrating various aspects of Karnataka's culture”.

A celebration of the food culture, arts and crafts traditions of Karnataka, the highlight of the festival is the Dussehra Gombe, which will be staged at the T2 Arrival Forecourt from October 12 to 17. Padma Shri award winning puppeteer Anupama Hoskere has staged this. The exhibition will revive the Gombe Habba tradition of decorating dolls and displaying them during the festival and will bring to the visitors the stories, traditions and significance behind the dolls. Karnataka's puppetry tradition can also be experienced on October 16 from 6pm to 8pm at the T2 Arrival Forecourt with a Toglu Gombeyatta performance by ninth-generation puppeteer Gunduraju and his team.
Passengers can connect with the handicraft traditions of Karnataka through hands-on activities at T1 and T2. At the Channapatna Experience Center one can paint traditional lacquered wooden toys, while at the Terracotta Experience Center one can experience the painting of idols based on the state's terracotta tradition. The games zone created by Kavade will feature traditional Karnataka board games like Huli Kuri, Salu Atta, Aligulimane, Chowkabara and Spiral Snakes and Ladders.
The emphasis on the artistic traditions of Karnataka is an extension of BLR Airport's extensive Art & Culture programme. These programs make local art forms part of the everyday travel experience. From 'Flights of Wonder' inspired by the toy-making tradition of Channapatna to 'Find Me a Love Song' and 'Khora' based on terracotta shapes, the program also includes 12 floor inlaid works by Yayati Godbole inspired by traditional board games of Karnataka and games created by the Maharajas of Mysore.
This cultural expression is also reflected in the wider area of the airport. Along with Karnataka-inspired kundyas, Dussehra umbrellas, symbols and artistic arrangements, there will also be a traditionally decorated elephant and women's Dollu Kunita performance at Bengaluru Duty Free.
'A Dasara Challenge' in collaboration with Chef Ranveer Brar and 080 Lounges. A Karnataka Answer.' The initiative will also showcase the food traditions of Karnataka. The chef will appeal to Kannadigas to share their recipes that they feel proud of for Dussehra. Selected dishes will be prepared by 080's chefs and served to passengers at participating 080 Lounges on October 20, Dussehra.
As part of BLR Airport's wider 'Feels Like BLR' campaign, the festival will bring the art, culture and traditions of Karnataka to the passenger experience. Thus travelers from Bangalore, other parts of India and the world will get a colorful introduction to the state's culture at its gateway.
