Friday brought many big achievements for India in the Asian Games 2026. In shooting, Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet won the gold medal for India after a long wait. Whereas in long distance running, Gulveer Singh has won the silver medal in 10,000 meter race. In badminton, India had high hopes from the pair of defending champion Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty but the pair lost in the first round. This has been a big shock for India today.


 


Kamaljeet and Suruchi Singh won gold for India today. However, they made a spectacular comeback after disappointing performances in their respective opening matches. Both of them got India's first gold medal in shooting in 10 meter air pistol mixed team and they both scored a total of 484.6 points. This gold has come at a time when India could not win gold in 10 meter air rifle. Apart from this, India did not get any medal in the individual, men's team and women's team competitions of 10 meter air pistol.

In men's 50 meter rifle three position team shooting, Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar, Rudranksh Patil and Neeraj Kumar won the silver medal by scoring 1762 points. The Indian team was ahead of China for a long time in the match, but in the end China won. China scored 1766 points and won the gold.


 


In track and field, Gulveer Singh won the silver medal in 10,000 meter race. He completed this race in 28 minutes 29.38 seconds. Gulveer had won the bronze medal in the last Asian Games held in Hangzhou and this time he improved his performance and won the silver. Gold was won by Birhanu Baleu of Bahrain, who completed the race in 28 minutes 27.51 seconds. Manpreet Kaur also won bronze medal in shot put. He threw 17.17 meters and this is his first international medal after 2023. Apart from this, Diya Chitale and Manush Shah also won bronze in mixed table tennis team. With these medals, India's total medal count in the Asian Games increased to 22.


Satwik-Chirag pair failed


India suffered a big blow in badminton when the defending champion pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost in the first round of men's doubles. India had high expectations from this pair but they did not get success against Thailand's Pakkapon Tiraratsakul and Peerachai Sukfun. The pair of Satwik and Chirag had made a good start by winning the first game 21-12 but later the Thai pair made a comeback and won the second game 21-19. After this, in the decisive game also, Thai players won 21-14. The match lasted 1 hour 8 minutes and Satwik-Chirag were out of the Asian Games.


 


In women's doubles, Trisha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand defeated Hong Kong's Hiu Yan Tsang and Lok Lok Lui 21-16, 16-21, 21-16 in three games. The Indian pair had to work hard to win. In mixed doubles, Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila have reached the quarter-finals by winning two consecutive matches.


 


In the first round, they defeated Maldives' Nibal Ahmed and Aminath Nabiha Abdul Razzaq 21-8, 21-7. After this, Malaysia's pair of Shewan Jenny Lai and Soon Huat Goh was defeated 22-20, 24-22 in a tough match. Now in the quarter-finals Tanisha and Dhruv will face the Chinese pair of Yan Zhe Feng and Dongping Huang. In women's singles, Unnati Hooda also made it to the second round. She defeated North Korea's Mi Song Yu 21-9, 21-10 in just 30 minutes.

There is good news for India in squash because Indian players have secured three medals in it. Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar have made it to the semi-finals of mixed doubles. Whereas Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh have entered the semi-finals of their respective singles matches. 40-year-old Joshna Chinappa, who is participating in the Asian Games for the record seventh time, and Senthilkumar, who is playing in these Games for the first time, defeated David Pelino and Jamica Aribado of Philippines 11-3, 11-5 in the quarter-finals.


 


In women's singles, Junior World Champion Anahat Singh defeated her countryman Tanvi Khanna 11-2, 11-5, 11-3 in the quarter-finals and reached the semi-finals. Anahat is now also eyeing a place in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. With this, the women's hockey team strengthened its claim to reach the semi-finals by defeating Japan 3-1. After this victory, the team's place in the semi-finals is considered almost certain.

India's men's and women's Kabaddi teams continued their excellent performance and made it to the finals. Both the teams will now face Iran in the final to be held on Saturday. Reigning champion Indian women's team defeated Nepal 48-24 in the semi-finals. Whereas the current champion Indian men's team defeated Thailand 66-28 in the semi-finals. India's disappointing performance in swimming continued. Experienced swimmer Sajan Prakash finished seventh in the men's 200m butterfly final. In men's 200 meter backstroke, Rishabh Das finished sixth and Utkarsh Patil finished seventh. In this way India could not get any medal from swimming pool.


 


In boxing, India's Sachin Siwach has made it to the quarter-finals by defeating Jordan's Mohammad Adnan Abu Jazeh in a tough match in the men's 60 kg category. However, the journey of Indian boxer Preeti Pawar, who won the bronze medal last season, ended this time.
