New Delhi. Mecca and several other parts of Saudi Arabia have been put on alert after Saudi Arabia's National Early Warning Platform sent warning messages about the potential threat. This information has been given by Saudi Civil Defense. “The National Early Warning Platform has issued an alert to warn about the potential threat in the city of Mecca,” the Saudi Civil Defense Directorate said in a post on 'X', as well as instructions for residents. However, minutes after issuing the warning, the department said in a post that the threat to Makkah city, Tabuk province, Jeddah governorate and Yanbu governorate had passed.

What does the warning say?

Civil Defense urged people who received the alert to remain calm, follow official instructions and immediately move to a safe place (such as inside a building or in an interior room away from windows) and remain there until the danger has passed.

People were also advised not to come out of their homes or buildings until the danger passes, stay away from open spaces, windows, glass, balconies and rooftops and avoid going to crowded or dangerous places.

People outside the building were instructed to move to a nearby building or take cover behind a strong barrier.

Saudi Civil Defense said that people should stop on the side of the road if they receive a warning while driving and stay away from bridges and tall buildings.

Civil Defense also advised people not to go to dangerous places and not to take photographs there.

Helpline numbers released

According to Saudi Civil Defense guidelines, people were asked to contact 911 in case of any danger in Mecca, Medina, Riyadh and the Eastern Province, and 998 in the rest of the kingdom. The officials also appealed to the people to follow the instructions issued by government channels.
