Prayagraj : Ali Ahmed , son of slain mafia-politician Atiq Ahmed, was produced in a Prayagraj court on Monday in connection with an extortion case . He recorded his statement and remained in court for about two hours. As he stepped out, media personnel tried to speak with him, but police prevented them from doing so.




Police placed Ali directly into a van and pulled down the curtains.




Following this, a convoy of three vehicles carrying 35 police personnel departed with him for Jhansi. Another accused, Asad Kalia, who is lodged in Kasganj Jail , was also produced in court in connection with the same case to record his statement. Given the appearance of both accused, more than 250 police personnel were deployed inside and outside the additional district judge’s court in Prayagraj.




While Ali was being brought to Prayagraj, his brother Ahjam was following the convoy in a car along with other vehicles. Upon realising this, police stopped and searched Ahjam’s car in Kaushambi . During questioning, Ahjam said he had learnt that Ali was being brought from jail, which was why he was following the convoy. Police instructed him not to follow the convoy any further.




An FIR was registered in 2023 at Kareli police station in Prayagraj against five people, including Ali. It is alleged that, on Ali’s instructions, his aides demanded Rs 30 lakh in extortion, forcibly made the complainant sign blank stamp papers and assaulted him.




On Aug 8, Ali was brought to Prayagraj to attend the funeral (Supurd-e-Khak) of his younger brother Abaan, who had died in a road accident. The High Court had granted parole to Ali and his brother Umar to attend their brother’s funeral. On August 6, Abaan was on his way to meet Ali when his car collided with a divider on the highway in Jhansi, leading to his death in the accident.
