Tennis legend and 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer will return to the US Open for a special exhibition event featuring some of the sport's biggest names, tournament organizers confirmed.
Federer, a five-time US Open champion, will face 2003 champion Andy Roddick in a one-set singles contest at Arthur Ashe Stadium on August 25. The event will also feature a legends' doubles match, with Federer teaming up with four-time US Open champion John McEnroe against Roddick and eight-time Grand Slam winner Andre Agassi.
“Five-time consecutive US Open champion and tennis icon Roger Federer returns to New York to compete in a once-in-a-lifetime exhibition event,” the US Open said in a statement.
Federer retired from professional tennis in 2022 and remains one of the most successful players in US Open history. He won five consecutive titles at Flushing Meadows from 2004 to 2008, matching the Open Era record held by Pete Sampras and Jimmy Connors.
Roddick won his lone US Open title in 2003, defeating Juan Carlos Ferrero in the final. He faced Federer eight times in Grand Slam tournaments but never managed to beat the Swiss star.
McEnroe won seven Grand Slam singles titles, including four US Open crowns in 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1984. Agassi captured eight Grand Slam titles during his career, including US Open triumphs in 1994 and 1999. McEnroe and Agassi finished their career head-to-head at 2-2.
The exhibition will offer fans an opportunity to see four US Open champions share the court in New York.
The US Open 2026 begins with qualifying and mixed doubles on Monday, while the main draw is scheduled to get underway on August 30.
