BCCI's Recent Warning
Interestingly the incident took place just a few hours after the BCCIhad released new guidelines for the franchise owners regarding their interaction with players during match hours. The apex body of Indian cricket had sent out a 10-point instruction to the players, support staff, officials and owners after observing several breaches of Players and Match Officials Access (PMOA) protocol by few owners.
The BCCI was quoted saying by PTI:
"The BCCI has noted with concern that certain IPL franchise owners have not adhered to the Players and Match Officials Access (PMOA) protocol during the course of the matches. Specifically, instances have been observed of IPL franchise owners attempting to communicate with, approach, hug, or otherwise physically interact with players during live match situations. Such conduct, however well-intentioned, directly contravenes established protocol and may constitute interference with team dynamics and match proceedings."
However, Goenka's serene and respectful gesture throughout his interaction with Kohli was lauded by the online users as they believe he followed the protocols to the 'T'.
