Hidden in Lancashire lies a pretty town that's been named as one of the best places to live in the UK - and it's easy to see why. Locals and visitors alike can't get enough of Clitheroe which is a stunning and quaint area.
Known for its sense of community, vibrant high street and independent shops, the area is a "hidden gem," locals say. The town itself is perched on a hill and surrounded by greenery in Lancashire's Ribble Valley - an Area of Outstanding Beauty.

A spokesperson for Ribble Valley Borough Council said: "Clitheroe and the Ribble Valley, a hidden gem.
"With picturesque villages, soul-soothing countryside and warm-hearted inhabitants, Ribble Valley is somewhere rather special-and certainly worth a visit.
"We have fantastic independent shops, lots of places to eat and we are becoming a destination place for somewhere to celebrate weddings."
Clitheroe has a thriving shopping scene with a range of boutique sellers offering independent art, antiques, food and wine.
Muddly Stilettos, which named Clitheroe as one of the best places to live in the UK, has even picked out Cowman's Famous Sausage Shop as a must-visit which offers over 75 varieties of sausage.
There is also a market which takes place in the town that's located a short distance from the train station and bus station in the heart of the town.
Alongside its independent shopping, the town is also known for its greenery.
Ribble Valley Borough Council tourism officer, Tom Pridmore, said: "Clitheroe, and the surrounding Ribble Valley as a whole, offers a mix of outstanding countryside, strong rural economy and a great quality of life.
"There's a real sense of community, with lots of independent businesses and shops, set against the historic background of Clitheroe Castle.
"We're proud of our Lancashire roots and Northern hospitality which comes through in the growing reputation we have for locally-based top-class food and drink providers.
"Clitheroe is the perfect base for exploring the beautiful Ribble Valley and Bowland fells while being within easy driving distance of the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District."
Clitheroe Castle is one must-visit spot in the area and one of the most popular attractions for visitors.
The 12th century castle has dominated the skyline of Clitheroe for over 800 years - today it is known as one of the most picturesque spots in the valley.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Visit Lancashire said: "Rising above the town, its Norman castle is encircled by rows of independent shops and destination retailers including Cowman's famous sausage shop, the go-to vintners D Byrne & Co, Exchange Coffee Company and Lancashire's much admired quality food & drink store, Booths."
It adds that the town has an "enviable quality of life".
Visit Lancashire adds: "The town's weekly markets, annual food & drink festival and the wider Ribble Valley's acclaimed restaurants, gastro pubs, places to stay, beautiful countryside and healthy outdoor leisure activities, attract visitors from far afield to experience the lifestyle that residents can enjoy every day."
It says that there is a good range of traditional and modern properties, excellent schools, cultural venues, good transport links to nearby cities and workplaces for residents.
With its range of open spaces, cosy pubs and boutique shops, Clitheroe is a place that simply must be considered for your next weekend away.
