Friday saw Riyan Parag hit his opening fifty of IPL 2026, batting for Rajasthan Royals under the Jaipur lights. Though voices from beyond the boundary rarely catch his ear, delivering scores – and outcomes – weighs heavy on him still. The innings came opposite Delhi Capitals, who broke a run of three straight losses. With room to spare, they chased down victory by seven wickets. Momentum shifted firmly into their hands before night fully fell.

Out of nowhere, KL Rahul smashed 75 from just 40 balls, while Pathum Nissanka blasted 62 off 33, sparking a fierce start. That fiery partnership built the base for chasing down 226, a target never before reached so high. With five deliveries left unused, Tristan Stubbs chipped in 18 and Ashutosh Sharma added 25 to seal it without panic.

Fifty balls brought Riyan Parag ninety runs, his top knock so far this season, setting the stage early. Not long after, Donovan Ferreira leapt into action – fourteen balls, forty-seven not out, a sudden blaze near the close. Together, their efforts pushed RR to 225 for six, following the choice to bat first.

Out front, Parag held things together with Dhruv Jurel, who made 42, after a shaky start. Then came Mitchell Starc – back in action – cutting through with three for forty, one blow landing hardest when the RR captain fell.

Out there, Parag thought the score could hold up, seeing how the track lost pace and guessing two hundred was fair. Yet things slipped when deliveries kept gifting fours – bowling never tightened enough. His idea? Let aggressive players such as Donovan Ferreira wait their turn, shift strike smoothly through slower bowlers while ticking eight or nine each six-ball set, then push hard once quick men returned.

“I don’t need to answer critics (on his form), but my job is to score runs and get the two points for the team. I think it was a good score. Though 200 was par, the pitch was slowing down, but we bowled badly, conceded boundaries every over and lost a trick or two. With a left-right combination and 8-9 overs remaining, we wanted to delay our hitters (on not sending Donovan Ferraira early), aim for 8-9 runs per over from the spinners and then attack the seamers from the first ball. That was the plan. Hopefully, nothing serious (on his injury), just a tweak on the hamstring, we have a week to recover,” Parag said after the match.

A cloud of vapor led to trouble when Parag puffed on an e-cigarette in the team area during Rajasthan Royals’ game versus PBKS. A quarter cut from his earnings followed. So did a disciplinary mark. The incident unfolded mid-IPL clash. Officials acted fast.

Five deliveries still left when the chasing team reached the target. This becomes Delhi’s biggest successful run-pursuit ever in the league.

This time, Delhi Capitals chased like they’d been here before. After crumbling to 75 last match versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), few expected much. Yet here they stood – target set at over 220, a hurdle never cleared by them earlier. Still, they reached it cleanly. Seven wickets left in pocket. Five deliveries unused.

Now sitting sixth, DC pockets its fourth win of the season after the match. Behind them, RR holds steady in fourth spot, having won six from ten games so far.

Only once before have more runs been scored to win a game versus RR here – that time it was 229 by SRH, just a few weeks ago.
