Patna. Another big step is being taken towards strengthening the infrastructure in Bihar. After road and rail network, now with emphasis on air connectivity, the plan to build two new greenfield airports in the state has been approved. These airports will be developed in Sonpur and Ajgabinath Dham, which is expected to provide huge benefits to different areas of the state.
Which areas will benefit?
The proposed airport in Ajgaibinath Dham will provide direct air connectivity to the people of Eastern Bihar. At the same time, the airport to be built in Sonpur will help in reducing the increasing pressure on the existing airport of the capital Patna. This will provide better and convenient travel options to passengers.
Construction will take place on a large scale
State level approval has been received for both the projects and the initial phase work has also started. It is estimated that approximately Rs 100 crore will be spent initially on the construction of these airports, although the cost may increase as the project progresses.

The airport to be built in Sonpur will be developed on more than 4200 acres of land, while the airport at Ajgabinath Dham will be spread over an area of more than 3000 acres. The government has set a target to complete these projects by the year 2030.
Technical preparations also continue
The responsibility of preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the airport has been entrusted to RITES Limited. Through this, efforts are being made to make the project technically strong and practical.
Promotion of tourism and employment
The construction of these airports will not only make travel easier but will also give a new impetus to tourism. Especially the number of devotees can increase due to ease of access to religious places like Ajgaibinath Dham. Besides, new employment opportunities will also be created for the local people during construction and operation.
