There is growing uncertainty regarding the involvement of Mumbai Indians (MI) star player Rohit Sharma in the upcoming IPL 2026 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, scheduled for Wednesday, April 29, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The former MI captain has missed the last three matches against Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Chennai Super Kings due to a hamstring injury sustained during a game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He was forced to retire hurt while batting at 19 after feeling discomfort in his hamstring.

Current Status of Rohit Sharma

MI's skipper Hardik Pandya previously mentioned that Rohit would evaluate his fitness over the next couple of matches before deciding on his availability for the remainder of the season. In Rohit's absence, Quinton de Kock opened the innings alongside Ryan Rickleton against PBKS, while Danish Malewar was brought in as an opener for the matches against GT and CSK.

Will Rohit Sharma Make a Comeback Against SRH?

After missing three games, Rohit Sharma has resumed training in preparation for the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, aiming to play in front of his home crowd. A video shared by the Mumbai Indians on Instagram shows him batting in the nets, suggesting a possible return to action.

Reports indicate that Rohit has not displayed any signs of discomfort while practicing extensively in the nets. However, his participation will ultimately depend on a final fitness evaluation closer to the match.

A source close to the Mumbai Indians stated that while Rohit has made progress in his recovery, the final decision regarding his participation will be made at the time of the toss.

Importance of Rohit Sharma's Availability

Prior to his injury, Rohit Sharma had impressive scores of 78, 35, 5, and 19*, totaling 137 runs with an average of 45.66 and a strike rate of 165.06 across four matches. His presence is vital for MI, especially as they struggle in the current season.

Under Hardik Pandya's leadership, the Mumbai Indians find themselves in a challenging position, sitting ninth on the points table with only 2 wins and 5 losses, and a net run rate (NRR) of -7.036 after seven matches.

To have a realistic chance of making it to the playoffs, MI must win all of their remaining seven league matches, making every game critical for their campaign.
