Electric Vehicle (EV) owners in Dubai can now charge their vehicles while relaxing at the park, beach, or other recreational facilities in the emirate.

This comes as Dubai Municipality launched a new initiative in partnership with UAEV (Emarat EV Charging Stations Company), bringing supercharging infrastructure to 600 parking spaces across the emirate’s most popular public destinations.

The first phase will see 75 EV supercharging stations installed across 150 parking bays within the next two years. The rollout will prioritise wide geographic coverage, ensuring both residents and visitors have convenient access to charging facilities across high-footfall areas, including major destination parks, neighbourhood parks, and public beaches.

EV ownership in the UAE has soared has soared in the UAE over the last few years with some figures indicating that more than half – 52 per cent – of UAE residents are buying and leasing these vehicles due to lower maintenance costs among other things. The unification of charging rates in 2024 helped accelerate this.

The Dh150-million project is delivered through a Public-Private Partnership model aligned with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to sustainable urban infrastructure.

According to Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and Chairman of UAEV, the partnership marks a major step in integrating EV solutions into community spaces. “Through our partnership with Dubai Municipality, UAEV is proud to expand access to EV charging infrastructure across key community destinations, including parks, markets, and public facilities,” he said.

Every day locations

The initiative supports Dubai’s Greenery and Parks Strategy 2040, positioning public spaces not just as recreational destinations but as active enablers of the city’s sustainable mobility ecosystem.

“By integrating charging solutions into everyday locations, we are making sustainable mobility more convenient and accessible for everyone,” said Al Olama. “This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to supporting the UAE’s clean mobility ambitions and enhancing quality of life across the community.”

Badr Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, added that the project reflects a broader transformation in how public spaces are designed and managed.

“This initiative reflects Dubai Municipality’s commitment to transforming public spaces into integrated, future-ready environments that support evolving lifestyles and sustainable mobility.

“By embedding EV charging infrastructure across parks and beaches, we are enabling residents and visitors to make more environmentally responsible choices as part of their daily routines, while enhancing the overall quality and accessibility of Dubai’s public realm," he said.

Visitors will be able to charge their vehicles while enjoying outdoor recreation, sports, family activities, children’s play areas, swimming, and waterfront promenades — making sustainable choices more seamlessly integrated into everyday routines.

 50% EV target by 2050

The project supports the UAE’s long-term vision to accelerate the transition towards an integrated sustainable mobility ecosystem, contributing to the national target of increasing electric vehicle adoption to 50 per cent of the total vehicle fleet by 2050.

It also aligns with the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative and the UAE Energy Strategy 2050.

Dubai Municipality continues to invite private sector partners, operators, and innovation-driven companies to collaborate in shaping the next generation of public infrastructure. Through strategic partnerships, the Municipality is integrating technology, sustainability, and service excellence into public environments — ensuring Dubai’s public spaces remain inclusive, accessible, and environmentally responsible for generations to come.
