The Commerce Ministry said on Saturday that the country's pharmaceutical exports increased by 9.4 percent to $30.47 billion in the year 2024-25 and the industry intends to grow in double digits in the year 2026-27. During a 'Thintan Shivir' organized in Ahmedabad, issues related to exports were discussed between government officials and the pharmaceutical industry. This sector, which is currently worth about $60 billion, is expected to reach $130 billion by the year 2030. India ranks third in the pharmaceutical sector in terms of quantity.
Medicines are exported from here to more than 200 markets. Of these, more than 60 percent of exports are for tightly regulated markets. America accounts for 34 percent and Europe accounts for 19 percent of India's pharmaceutical exports. The ministry said that during the talks, the government's focus remained on creating conditions to accelerate exports, and the industry showed readiness to target double-digit growth in 2026-27. The ministry said it will continue to interact with exporters, regulators and Indian missions abroad to ensure timely identification and resolution of problems.
It further said that negotiations with the European Union were discussed in the context of the $572.3 billion pharmaceuticals and medical devices market, while bilateral trade arrangements with the United States could further improve market access and price competitiveness for Indian pharmaceutical companies. The ministry further said that it will continue to interact with exporters, regulators and Indian missions abroad for timely identification and resolution of problems, thereby supporting continued growth in pharmaceutical exports to the global market.
