T20 World Cup 2026 : India made a great start by defeating America by 29 runs in their first match of T20 World Cup 2026. After losing the toss and opting to bat first in the group match played at Wankhede on Saturday, the Indian team scored 161 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs on the basis of Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten inning of 84 runs. In reply, America could score only 132 runs after losing eight wickets in the stipulated overs and lost the match.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav was the hero of Team India’s victory in this match. He played a half-century innings for the team in difficult times. The beginning of the match was not at all good for India, because the team lost four important wickets during the power play itself. At one time the team seemed to be under pressure due to the initial setbacks, but the responsible batting of the middle order took the score to a respectable position.


The Indian team, which came to bat first against America, suffered a big setback in the very second over. Opener Abhishek Sharma returned to the pavilion on the very first ball without opening his account. He was dismissed by fast bowler Ali Khan. After Abhishek was out, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma tried to handle the innings. There was a partnership of 37 runs in 24 balls between the two for the second wicket, which helped the team to some extent.


Ishan Kishan was out after scoring 20 runs in 16 balls, while Tilak Verma contributed 25 runs in 16 balls. However, Shivam Dubey was out without opening the account, due to which India’s position again came under pressure.


American bowler Shadley Van Schalkwyk bowled brilliantly in the last phase of the powerplay and took three wickets in the sixth over. His over put brakes on the pace of the Indian innings. After this, Rinku Singh also could not stay at the crease for long and was out after scoring 6 runs in 14 balls. Hardik Pandya also could not find the rhythm and returned to the pavilion after scoring only 5 runs in 6 balls. Axar Patel contributed to the team’s score by scoring 14 runs in 11 balls. Arshdeep Singh added 4 runs in 6 balls, while Varun was run out.

Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy innings took over the team


Amidst the initial setbacks, captain Suryakumar Yadav took the responsibility and displayed brilliant batting. Showing an excellent balance of restraint and aggression, he played an unbeaten inning of 84 runs. Suryakumar faced 49 balls and managed the team in difficult conditions, taking the score beyond 150. Thanks to his captaincy innings, the Indian team was successful in reaching 161 runs, which at one time seemed difficult.


Strong bowling by Mohammad Siraj


In this match, Mohammad Siraj, who returned to the T20 team after a long time, demonstrated excellent bowling. He took 3 wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs. Whereas, Arshdeep Singh and Akshar Patel got 2-2 wickets. Whereas, Varun Chakraborty got one wicket. For UAA, Milind Kumar scored 34 runs, Sanjay Krishnamurthy scored 37 runs and Shubham Ranjane also scored 37 runs. Apart from this, no American batsman could touch double figures.
