New Delhi: A new phase has started in the field of taxi services in the country. The government has launched ‘Bharat Taxi’ service based on cooperative model. Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah formally launched it from Delhi-NCR and Gujarat on Thursday. This platform will challenge private companies like Ola-Uber. The special thing is that here the driver will not only be the driver but also the owner. Freedom from surge charges and the promise of higher earnings to drivers make this service different.
What is Bharat Taxi?
Let us tell you that this is the first ride-hailing app in the country which runs completely on a cooperative structure. Eight major cooperative institutions like NCDC, IFFCO, Amul, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NABARD, NDDB and NCEL have jointly prepared it. This organization was registered on June 6, 2025 under the name ‘Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited’. It has been formed under the Multi State Cooperative Societies Act. To
Inspired by Amul model, said Amit Shah
Amit Shah mentioned the successful model of Amul. He said that just as Amul, which started with a few cattle farmers, is strengthening the economic condition of millions of families today, Bharat Taxi will also bring a big change in the lives of taxi drivers. The minister believes that this service will spread across the country in three years. Drivers from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and small towns will also benefit from this.
Now drivers will become owners
Actually, the most important thing about this platform is the ownership rights. Out of every hundred rupees earned, eighty rupees go directly into the driver’s account. The remaining twenty rupees are also given to the drivers as cooperative share. No outside investor will take profits. The aim is only to increase the income of drivers. This model is different from any private company and empowers the drivers.
Surge-free and safe travel
There will be no surge pricing at all in Bharat Taxi. The fare will not increase even if demand is high. With this, passengers will get affordable and reliable service. There will be facility to book car, auto-rickshaw and bike. After the success of the pilot project, other companies also had to reduce their commissions. Drivers are being called ‘Sarathi’ and they are getting facilities like health insurance, accident cover, retirement savings etc.
More than 10 thousand rides are happening every day
So far, more than three lakh drivers have joined the pilot which started from December 2025. More than ten thousand rides are taking place every day in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat. About Rs 10 crore has been given directly to the drivers. Seven support centers are working in Delhi. Amit Shah says that this service will become a strong means of welfare of taxi drivers and will spread across the country.
