The UK's culinary scene is full of excitement and options, where food lovers can enjoy delicious meals from cuisines around the world. However, when it comes down to pinpointing which UK city is the best for foodies, one takes the top spot.
Student accommodation provider Canvas, operated by Greystar, analysed cities across the nation to uncover the top 10 cities. The company used key foodie metrics, including the total number of restaurants, percentages of food spots rated four stars or higher, average meal costs, number of fine dining spots and cheap places to grab a bite. Canvas made sure that the comparison was fair by indexing certain metrics per capita, before announcing the UK's food capital.
According to the accommodation provider, every food lover should focus on the city of Bath.
It said: "Bath takes the crown as the UK's top city for food lovers, delivering a mix of quality and variety. The city has 63.6% of restaurants rated four stars or higher and 1.7 fine dining establishments per 1,000 residents for those seeking a more luxurious dining experience.
"With 451 restaurants in total (48 per 1,000), Bath serves up plenty of choice for its size. A meal for two averages £70, so if you're out celebrating with a friend, you're looking at around £35 each for a three-course treat, or you could grab one of the 56 cheap eats (six per 1,000) for a budget-friendly bite."
Newcastle was not far behind, taking second place with 1,072 restaurants and over half earning a rating of four stars or higher. The city offers a variety of budget-friendly options as well as "acclaimed independents, gastropubs, and global flavours".
Dinner for two is slightly cheaper than Bath, averaging at around £60 for "something special" but if you're looking to save some money, you have a great range of cheaper spots, "from street food to hearty pub grub, ideal before a night out in Ouseburn or along the Quayside".
