Digital connectivity 5g india: The largest part of mobile data in India is used inside homes and buildings, but the problem of network coverage is still intact. Telecom Regulatory Authority (Trai) Anil Kumar Lahoti, chairperson of the chair, said in an online session on Monday that about 70 to 80 percent of mobile data consumption is indoor in the country, but adequate network coverage is not available in many campuses.

Focus on connectivity infrastructure in 5G era

Lahoti said that in today’s time, especially in the era of advanced technology like 5G, a better plan of digital connectivity infrastructure (DCI) is extremely important. It will have to give priority to fiber entry, ducting, cable tray, rooftop access, Wi-Fi readyness and network strength in the same way as electricity and water supply is given.

Property will get digital connectivity rating

TRAI has notified Digital Connectivity Rating Regulation 2024 this year. Under this, property will get a star rating system based on their connectivity. Digital connectivity assessment manual was also released on 13 August 2025 in this direction. At present, 8 digital connectivity rating agencies (DCRAs) have been registered, while other applications are in review.

Participation of senior officers in session

The interactive session was organized by TRAI and Form of Indian Regulators (FOIR), which included senior officials of Foir member organizations such as IBBI, CERC, PNGRB, CCI, SERCs and AERA. Overall, more than 80 officials participated in this meeting and shared their views on connectivity.

Digital connectivity: Today’s basic need

On this occasion, Foir’s honorary chairperson and IBBI chairman Ravi Mittal said that, “Today, Digital Connectivity has become a basic need for all fields like finance, education, transport, housing and health.” He appreciated TRAI’s rating system initiative and emphasized cooperation between regulators in various fields.

Digital India and Smart Cities will get a boost

Experts believe that this step of TRAI is an important initiative towards strengthening Digital India and Smart Cities Mission. This will not only improve digital infrastructure, but will also meet the technical needs of the future.
